OUR PROGRAM

Curls on the Block STEAM program.

As a non profit, Curls on the Block (COTB) uses a curriculum that has ten consecutive sessions where participants explore activities, careers and mentorship in STEAM.

The enduring questions girls are challenged with every session is how they can address the needs of the curly hair community with STEAM?

Schools can contract a semester or year of programming which includes:

  • Pre/post assessments of confidence and knowledge from hair to STEAM facts.

  • Book club readings.

  • A pre-liminary qualifying pageant and each week a different experience from LED Floral crowns.

  • Making flax seed hair gel.

  • Research projects on ingredients in popular or cheap hair products as well as testing the pH balance of water in bottles and tap.

Festivals and conferences often request an hour long program where participants are leaving with items they have made, booklets of information or interactive experiences of trying on curly wigs, coloring pages of curly haired folks and coming up with a reason why they love their hair.
